A Rain Bird PEB or PESB series remote-control valve with an IVM-SOL solenoid sits inside a Rain Bird VB-STD valve box and cover. The valve connects to a PVC Schedule 80 mainline pipe via a PVC Schedule 80 close nipple and a PVC Schedule 40 elbow, with a brass ball valve installed upstream. A PVC Schedule 40 tee or elbow connects to the lateral pipe using a PVC Schedule 40 male adapter. Two 36-inch lengths of 2-wire cable provide electrical connections via Rain Bird WC20 waterproof connectors. The assembly rests on a 3-inch minimum depth bed of 3/4-inch washed gravel for drainage, with the valve box cover set flush to the finish grade or top of mulch.
